Picasa Web Albums:
Picasa Web Albums is designed to help Picasa users quickly and easily upload their photos to the web and share those photos with family and friends. Picasa Web Albums is intended for use with a new version of Picasa that has a "Web Album" button and includes web uploading and downloading capabilities. (Quoted from an invitation email to try Picasa Web Albums).
An easy way to create and view web photoalbums is to use the latest version of Google's Picasa (a free download). Once Picasa is downloaded it is all fairly easy.
I'm fairly sure you don't have to download the software to view albums - only to create them and also manage your photos. Have a look at trial albums I created (Oct 10, 2006) - each album contains the same photos - only the resolution and photo download times are different.
Largest - filesizes are the largest and download times the slowest.
1600 pixels - faster download than Largest.
1024 pixels - faster download than 1600 pixels.
You will find the albums at: http://picasaweb.google.com/yaruman5
Open an album. You can then:
- change the size of the thumbnails using the size icons at the top right.
- click on a thumbnail to view that photo.
- click on the magnifiying glass icon to zoom in. (Notice that the photo is initially pixellated but as it downloads will become clearer).
Let me know what you think.
You can access the download for Picasa by clicking the Picasa Web Album icon - top left - of my albums page.
If you want to upload photos you will need an account - this is best a gmail account. It is likely when you setup Picasa that you will be offered a gmail username. If you end up needing one a friend may be able to send you an invitation.
