Computer Monitors

 

LCD Monitor Liquid Crystal Display Monitor: a backlit array of pixels. Generate less heat and use less power. Are easier on the eyes as there is no flicker. In general have a longer life.

CRT Monitor Cathode Ray Display Monitor: a focussed electron beam which moves over the screen. - cheaper, truer colour.

An interesting comparison between the traditional CRT and the modern LCD computer monitors. While reading this link keep in mind the following:

  • The unit cost of power in remote areas is more than the .157US cents used in the table.
  • The note about airconditioning would apply only to the CRT monitor which generates much more heat which airconditioning systems have to remove.
  • Note also that an LCD monitor increases the time an uninterruptible power supply can power a computer system hile on battery.
  • There is a link to the advantages of a CRT monitor.
