The major contributor to the total cost of a printer these days are the consumables, particularly inkjet and toner cartridges. printer consumables:

Refilled and non-authentic cartridges can be economical and work well.  Sometimes, though problems arise:

• Leaking cartridges.
• Clogged or blocked printheads affecting the quality of printouts.
• Lower page yields.

Hint: If a printer is regularly used for more than one printing task (eg paper size) then it may be a good idea to add the printer twice and set up each version of the printer for a particular task. For example I have added the printer HP9860 to my list of printers as HP9860 A4 and HP9860 A3 - the second entry has the main tray unavailable and prints to the manual tray in which A3 sheets can be placed.
